Hattersley Hub to continue running Maker’s Market throughout 2023
A local Makers Market has been given the green light to continue throughout 2023 after new and small local businesses have seen huge success in promoting their products to the wider community.
The Makers Market, set up by Onward, brings together independent artisans, makers, and businesses to create brilliant, local community monthly markets at the Hattersley Hub. The pilot scheme welcomed 33 small businesses through the Hub’s doors over the last 5 months and has encouraged Hattersley residents to buy locally.
Onward’s Social Investment Team set up the pilot scheme to test the appetite for a local Maker’s Market providing new and small local businesses with a space to help them reach local customers. The scheme has also given those wanting to start a new business venture an opportunity to meet regularly to access business support and build on their ideas.
As the pilot project was such a success, Onward has committed to continuing the Makers Market throughout 2023, with sessions being held on the first Tuesday of the month at Hattersley Hub.
The next session will be on Tuesday 4th April from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Stalls can be hired for £3 per session, with priority spaces are given to residents of Hattersley & Mottram, Hyde, and the wider borough of Tameside.
To help increase footfall through the Hub, free breakfast tokens for hot drinks and sandwiches will be given out to local residents who make a purchase from one of the stallholders. Onward will also be hosting an array of activities during each monthly event, and stall holders will be showcasing their work through regular ‘How To’ workshops, encouraging visitors to learn new skills.
Samantha Powers, Social Investment Specialist for Onward Homes said:
“We are delighted that the pilot project for Hattersley has been such a success. There are so many talented people living in Hattersley and Mottram, and we wanted to help them to showcase their work through this opportunity. It is really encouraging to see the success of this so far and the number of individuals and community groups benefiting from the opportunity to raise their income.”
Tameside Councillor Janet Cooper, ward member for Longendale said:
“This a great way for upcoming and fledgling businesses to enter the marketplace, the encouragement and support the stall holders have shown to each other along with Onward has been amazing. The market is a great asset to our community with people coming on a regular basis to shop and get together.”
Hattersley Maker’s Market will hosted on the first Tuesday of every month in 2023 (9:30 to 12:30), at the Hattersley Hub, Stockport Rd, Hattersley, Mottram in Longdendale, Hyde, SK14 6NT.
