Healthy living centre in the heart of Bootle celebrates 25-year anniversary

The May Logan Centre, which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in South Sefton through accessible support and NHS services, celebrates its 25-year anniversary on Friday 27th September 2024.

Leading North West housing association, Onward Homes, built the healthy living Centre in 1999 and manages its day-to-day operations, with core funding provided by NHS Cheshire and Merseyside.

In addition to running its own healthy living projects, the Centre is home to clinics hosted by Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Trust, Primary Care Network, and the Community Midwife Team from Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

These clinics offer respiratory, audiology, gynecology, antenatal, diabetes prevention and menopause services, as well as smoking and alcohol support alongside Living Well Sefton, a health and wellbeing service funded by Sefton Council.

Chris Preston, Clinical Lead – Sefton Access Service at Primary Care Network said:

“Our partnership [with May Logan Centre] has been instrumental in expanding healthcare access for residents in South Sefton, allowing us to see an additional 50,000 patients with acute and minor illnesses each year.”

“Thanks to the Centre’s fantastic facilities, together, we’ve launched much needed services such as menopause care and advice. We’ve also broadened access to primary care mental health support initiatives, including our Adverse Childhood Experience Recovery programme, which is helping participants understand the impact of early life experiences, build self-esteem and improve both mental and physical wellbeing.”

“We are excited to continue working together to serve the community and enhance the health and wellbeing of our residents in South Sefton.”

Andrew Brown, Director of Housing and Specialist Living at Onward, said:

“The May Logan Centre offers an array of vital services that were previously out of reach to the heart of South Sefton. Through our partnership with the NHS and Sefton Council, we’re delivering quality health and wellbeing support right on the doorstep of residents.”

“The May Logan Centre makes a real difference to the lives of local people. We are delighted to be celebrating the Centre’s 25th year and look forward to seeing the community come together at our free events programme next week.”

Local people are invited to celebrate the May Logan Centre’s 25-year anniversary at a free weeklong celebration taking place from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th September.

Between 10am and 12pm every day, biscuit decorating for children, craft activities for adults and health checks for all ages will be taking place. On Tuesday 24th September from 12pm to 3pm, an immersive installation will take participants on a relaxing journey with nature videos and thoughtful quotes set to calming music.

The Centre’s onsite café, May’s, serves affordable homemade food and refreshments and will be offering free cake and balloons for children with every purchase. The Adventure Play Space and Ball Pool for children aged 18 months to five years old is also available for a small entry fee of £1 per child.
