Let’s talk about money
Talking about money can sometimes feel awkward, but it doesn’t need to be. From pocket money to pensions, Talk Money Week is all about making conversations about money part of everyday life.
This year’s awareness campaign takes place from the 4th to the 8th of November and is an opportunity for everyone to do one thing that could help improve their financial wellbeing.
Your one thing could be as simple as:
- talking to your child about pocket money
- setting a savings goal
- using one of Money Helper’s free tools or calculators
You can also get support from our Money Advice Team who offer a free, confidential service to check whether you are entitled to a range of benefits, including Universal Credit, Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance.
If eligible, you could get help with rent and council tax payments, a Winter Fuel Payment, NHS costs including prescriptions, dental treatment and glasses, transport to and from hospital appointments and a free TV licence.
We can also offer advice about managing household budgets as well as signposting other support you might be entitled to and providing access to emergency funds.
One of our customers who has used the Money Advice service said:
“My Neighbourhood Specialist advised that I may be able to access Universal Credit, so put me in contact with the Money Advice Team.”
“The Money Advice Specialist explained everything to me and helped to identify which benefits I was eligible for and got it resolved for me quickly. They also helped me fill the forms in as I’m registered as blind.”
“I don’t know what I would have done without Onward’s help, they were fantastic, friendly, supportive and professional. A weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I will be eternally grateful.”
